Sulwe: The Darkest Skin
Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o has created a children’s book about colorism and learning to love your skin tone. Her story will be adapted into an animated musical for Netflix.
Sulwe, written by Nyong’o and illustrated by Vashti Harrison, is about a five-year-old girl who has dark skin that she wishes was lighter. But through a supernatural experience, she comes to appreciate her own dark skin.
Cinderella 2022
The classic Disney fairy tale Cinderella is getting a live-action remake in 2021. Camila Cabello is set to star as the princess, along with Idina Menzel and Pierce Brosnan.

Director Vahid Jalilvand’s thriller focuses on a blind man who finds himself trapped inside a Manhattan apartment with no way out. It’s an artful study of guilt and self- sacrifice that’s helped by some brilliant sound design and a new, thoughtful way of depicting blindness.
The film stars Navid Mohammadzadeh and Saba Habibi, who co-star in Jalilvand’s No Date. They’re both deeply committed to the roles, which may seem underwritten at first.
